Damage protection: a damage waiver on every hire
Every hire has a damage waiver: renters pay at most their excess, and Four Swags pays owners for covered damage above that.
- 1Every hire is protectedEvery hire includes a damage waiver, caravans and campers too. It’s added to the price automatically, and renters see it before they book.
- 2What it costsA small share of the hire price, depending on the gear: Low-risk gear: 8% of the hire, at least $5; Most camping gear: 10% of the hire, at least $8; Water and snow gear: 12% of the hire, at least $10; Rooftop tents, caravans and campers: 15% of the hire, at least $25.
- 3The most a renter paysIf something is damaged by accident, the renter pays up to their excess, taken from the bond: $100 for low-risk gear, $250 for most camping gear, $300 for water and snow gear and $1,000 for rooftop tents, caravans and campers.
- 4Owners are paid for the restFour Swags pays the owner for covered damage above the renter’s excess, from the waiver fees.
- 5Photos at pick-up and returnBoth of you photograph the gear at pick-up and at return, in the handover checklist. That’s the shared record if anything goes wrong.
- 6If something is damagedThe owner lodges a claim within 24 hours of the return, with photos. The renter gives their side, and Four Swags decides from the photos and the checklist.
- 7What isn’t coveredFair wear and tear, misuse or ignoring safety instructions, and theft not reported to police within 24 hours.
