Damage protection
Version 2026-10-draft
Every hire includes a damage waiver, shown in the price before you book. In return for the waiver fee, the most a renter pays for accidental damage is their excess (below), taken from their bond; Four Swags pays the owner for covered damage above that. The waiver is not insurance. [Lawyer to confirm the waiver wording.]
What it costs
The rates below are before GST; GST (10%) is added.
- Low-risk gear: 8% of the hire, at least $5. Most you pay for accidental damage: $100.
- Most camping gear: 10% of the hire, at least $8. Most you pay for accidental damage: $250.
- Water and snow gear: 12% of the hire, at least $10. Most you pay for accidental damage: $300.
- Rooftop tents, caravans and campers: 15% of the hire, at least $25. Most you pay for accidental damage: $1,000.
The fee is worked out on each item's share of the hire (after discounts), and the price you see before you book includes it.
